Dow Jones Industrial Average
Dow Jones Industrial Average or DJIA is one of the most important stock exchange index in the United States which consists of 30 major US stocks. Dow Jones lost -1097.64 points during last 3 weeks ie -7.87%.
Here we are going to compare few major stock exchanges in the world with Dow Jones changes in the last 18 trading sessions. Since Asian markets respond to Dow's changes only on the next day we are taking 18 trading sessions from July 23rd to August 16th for US and European markets but 24th July to 17th August for Asian markets. Since 15th August was a holiday in India and Korea we removed that days value for all exchanges.
Shangai Stock Exchange Composite Index
SSE Composite Index is the only global index totally ignored the sub-prime storm. When DOW lost 7.87% SSE Composite Index gained 10.52%, a very remarkable performance ignoring the global liquidity concerns. It totally gained 443.21 points during this period when all other stock exchanges in the world were struggling to holding up. So compared to DOW SSE Composite Index has a very high strength value of 107.82
DAX
Germany's DAX was another major stock exchange performing better compared to other world exchanges. It lost 674.14 points during this period or -8.49%. Since its performance was slightly lower compared to DJIA it got a strength value of -4.24.
NASDAQ
Nasdaq lost -239.51 points in last 18 trading sessions that is -10.47%. Its performance was better compared to major Asian and European markets but below Down Jones, SSE Composite Index and DAX with a strength value of -6.71.
BSE Sensex
India's premier stock exchange index BSE Sensex outperformed most of the Asian and European exchanges stands next to Nasdaq. Sensex lost -1653.4 during this volatile period ie -10.47% with a strength value of -16.29.
NSE Nifty
India's second largest Stock exchange index NSE Nifty is almost near to Sensex with a strenth value of -20.18 loosing -11.1% or -512 points.
FTSE 100
London Stock Exchange's index FTSE 100 lost -11.56% or -765.5 points in last 18 trading sessions and stands in the 7th position with a strength value of -23.18
CAC 40
French Stock market index CAC 40 is at -29.06 loosing -12.38% and -743.69
Hang Seng Index
Hong Kong Stock market benchmark Index Hang Seng Index lost -3085.75 or -13.15% and stands with a strength value of -33.47
Nikkei 225
Tokyo Stock Exchange index Nikkei 225 lost 15.16% or -2728.35 points during this period. Nikkie was holding up well but appreciating Yen is a major concern for Japanese investors leading to Yen Carry Trade issues.
Korea Composite Stock Price Index
Korea Composite Stock Price Index or KOSPI was badly hit by this sub-prime issue loosing -17.78% or -354.19 underperforming all other major indexes and stands with a strength value of -64.41
